Here are alist of tips most veterinary surgeon professionalscan agree on.

The recent recession has been getting to us all, and animal shelters seem to be getting close to full with the influx of animals unable to be cared for anymore. Animal lovers are having to make a difficult decision over their pets. Here’s afew pointers to help you and fido through these hard times.

  • Owning a pet can cost alot, so do some research into getting one. They do cost, and can you afford to look after one at the moment? Go to the local animal shelters about giving an abandoned pet a new home.
  • Take out pet insurance. Its not always cheap, but it’ll be alot more cheaper than all the vet fees that you’ll have to pay in the future. Cover can cost from as little from £8 per month -shop around online and find out.
  • Buy a cheaper pet food brand- all the family is making sacrifices, so why shouldnt fido? They may reject a cheaper pet food at first, with some animals being picky, but if thats all there is to eat they wont be above chowing down.
  • Neuter your pet. You may beable to afford one pet, but a whole litter maybe the straw that breaks that camels back? This will also help keep the animal population low as the shelters already have enough animals in their homes.

You’ve done these tips to try and keep hold of your pets, but sadly, what if those animal hospital bills are too much? Vet referrals are so expensive these days! My local Worthing vet has recently put up his prices due to the recent recession.

  • Try the animal shelters to see if they have the room to take your pet -Dogs trust, the RSPCA.
  • See if a friend or relative will take them for the time being- its better than loosing your pet forever.
  • DO NOT JUST ABANDON YOUR PET in the middle of nowhere.
  • Put a message in the classified section of your local paper to see if someone wants to adopt your pet.
