Smoking is injurious to health”- we are aware of this much publicized statutory warning but it’s doubtful how many of us really know how bad or injurious it can be. It is not only harmful for the person who smokes but also for the entire family. And it is well known fact that passive smokers are in more danger than active smokers. In a family of small kids and infants, passive smoking is not only dangerous to health it is perilous to life too.

Smoking effects the health of the family and not only the physical health it badly affects the mental health too. Summarizing few points:

1. When you smoke, even if others are not smoking they are passive smokers and are at risk. They may suffer from milder side effects such as eye irritation, headache, sore throat, coughing, dizziness, nausea, etc.

2. If you have conceived and still you are in a habit of smoking, following may cause to you and the fetus–
Stillbirth, low birth weight of the baby, colic, respiratory infection, placenta abruption, premature birth, miscarriage, etc.

3. Smoking can stunt the growth of young children in your family who are exposed to passive smoking and of babies whose mothers smoked during pregnancy or the young teenagers who start smoking while their bodies are still developing.

4.Children’s and adults’ smoking can form a ‘family circle’. Young women and their male partners who are less well-educated and less affluent are most likely to smoke during the woman’s pregnancy. The harmful effects on the fetus, including low birth weight and increased risk of respiratory diseases, are carried forward into childhood.

5. Kids are prone to be copycat at the stage of growing. They may pick up the habit of smoking at a very tender age or later in life. That would add to the world population of smokers.

Therefore… Quit smoking today. Live and Let live.
